Custom Orthotics & Braces

Our Program

As part of our commitment to quality care,  we are pleased to offer custom orthotics and braces for lower extremity through Calmar Orthopaedics,  one of the most reputable laboratories owned and operated by orthotist/pedorthist.

As defined by Wikipedia,

An orthotist is the primary medical clinician responsible for the prescription, manufacture and management of orthoses. An orthosis may be used to: Control, guide, limit and/or immobilize an extremity, joint or body segment for a particular reason.

A pedorthist is a professional who has specialized training to modify footwear and employ supportive devices to address conditions which affect the feet and lower limbs.

We do not permit related health professionals such as Physiotherapist, Chiropodist, Kinesiologist, or Chiropractor to prescribe and manufacture custom orthotics.

What is Orthotics?

The need for an orthosis, sometimes called an orthopaedic appliance, brace or splint can arise as a result of many conditions. An orthosis is designed to provide support or apply a corrective force to a body part. At Calmar we offer the professional service of Orthotists who assess and recommend/prescribe the appropriate device. Some orthoses are prefabricated, but most are custom-designed and made using state-of-the-art plastics, foam interace, leather, and metals. Many options are available for proper orthotic management and the most appropriate is chosen through assessment and discussion with the client.

Dependent on your condition,  funding may be available through your insurance or the Assistive Device Program (ADP) of Ontario.
